Types of Spare Tire Covers

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Were you aware that there are actually three main types of spare tire covers? The first kind is the soft cover. The soft cover is made of weather resistant fabric with heavy duty elastic to ensure a tight fit. (This is the type of spare tire cover most people are familiar with).

Molded covers have a disk made from weather safe thermoplastic, which is then attached to a vinyl cover. These spare tire covers can be a bit pricier than soft covers. By far the most expensive spare tire covers are the hard lockable covers. Usually they are made from stainless steel and have a faceplate that can be painted to match the color of the vehicle it’s attached to.
